The health and emotional benefits of regular exercise and physical activity are hard to ignore. From feeling better to looking better, healthy habits can have a significant impact on a persons life, young or old. Dr. Edward Hill discusses some of the benefits in todays 60 Second Housecall.
Parents owe it to their children to foster in them an understanding of the importance of fitness in their lives.
Healthy habits like regular exercise, healthy eating and keeping in shape significantly lessen the risk of obesity and catastrophic illness.
Everyone can benefit from regular exercise. Kids who are active will:
have stronger muscles and bones
have a leaner body because exercise helps control body fat
be less likely to become overweight
decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and
lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
Kids are never too young to learn these ideas. Childhood obesity is on the rise, and physical inactivity is the leading contributor. Things like video games, fast food, computers, TV and cuts in school budgets all contribute to the problem. But with education and effort, we can begin to reverse this terrible epidemic.
Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better. Theyre also better able to handle physical and emotional challenges.
