Dr. Hill:

Depression is a very serious illness. It can skew your view of the world, making everything seem hopeless. It can make work and home life almost impossible. It can make you feel utterly alone.

But youre not alone. Right now, 19 million Americans are living with depression. And the good news is there are very successful treatments.

Some symptoms of depression include:

Feeling sad, empty, hopeless or numb. These feelings are with you most of the day, every day.

Irritability or anxiety.

Trouble making decisions. Depression can make it hard to think clearly or concentrate.

Feeling guilty or worthless. You might feel guilty for things that arent your fault or that you have no control over.
