Health Benefits of Water

Sodas, sports drinks, energy drinks and juices are popular choices to quench a persons thirst, but theyre not the best option in terms of your health. Dr. Edward Hill tells us about the health benefits of water in todays 60 Second Housecall.

Dr. Hill:

Water makes up more than half of our body weight. A person cant survive for more than a few days without it. When we sweat, urinate or even talk, we lose water. We have to put that water back into our bodies.

Today, sports drinks, sodas, energy drinks and juice drinks are crowding out the important water our bodies need and taking the place of more nutritious options. These other drinks contain no nutritional value, and can pack on the calories. They have been linked to excessive weight gain and other health related problems. They should be only an every now and then drink. One 12-ounce soft drink has the equivalent of 10 packets of sugar. An average sports drink can contain so many calories that consuming them often cancels out the benefit of exercising.

Choose water when playing, exercising, when its hot and when youre thirsty. Drinking water is always the best drink choice. Its good for our overall health, and its calorie free.
