Medication ManagementTuesday, October 09, 2012
Managing medication can be complicated, particularly if you are taking several to treat different conditions. In todays 60 Second Housecall, Dr. Edward Hill provides some tips on how to stay on your medication schedule.
Following a medication schedule is an important part of managing your health. Some people dont remember whether theyve taken their medicine, so they end up skipping a dose or taking too much. A missed or wrong dose can be dangerous.
To help you stay on schedule, follow these tips:
Use a pill organizer with compartments labeled for each day of the week.
Program a wristwatch, cell phone or pill organizer to sound alarms that remind you to take your medications.
Place your medication in strategic locations, such as on the breakfast table or nightstand, but keep it out of the reach of children.
Make a list of your medications and the time of day you need to take them, and
Ask your physician to change your medications to once or twice per day doses, if possible.
Once youre in the habit of organizing your medications this way, these cues will help you stay on schedule.
