Nursing is an attractive job which offers flexibility, job security and the satisfaction of helping patients and their families. Dr. Edward Hill looks at nursing careers in todays 60 Second Housecall.

Dr. Hill: Nursing is an attractive career. The initial training is only two years, and the starting salaries are high and will be increasing for some time. Jobs are available anywhere in the country. Unlike other professions, nurses can choose a work schedule to fit their lifestyle. And to top it off, nurses get to help people every day. The numbers look good for job security. As people in this country live longer, there is a greater demand for health care. The U.S. nursing shortage is projected to grow to 260,000 registered nurses by 2025. While nursing has traditionally been a career for women, more and more men have been entering the field. Nursing offers many opportunities for career advancement. Many nurses advance their training as they work. Most employers will even pay for their continued education and training. Nursing is a rewarding profession. It offers good salary, job security, flexible schedules and opportunity for advancement. But the greatest reward is the impact nurses have on peoples lives every day.
