Chronic pain has many causes. Dr. Edward Hill discusses some of these causes in todayís Sixty Second Housecall.
Chronic pain is a growing and expensive burden on our society. So whatís causing this pain?
Low back pain and headaches are the most common sources of pain. Diabetes and cancer are also responsible for chronic pain. Some kinds of chronic pain have numerous causes. Back pain can be caused by a single factor like an injury or it may be the result of a combination of factors such as:
Years of poor posture
Improper lifting and carrying of heavy objects
A curvature of the spine
Wearing high heels
Sleeping on a poor mattress
In addition to low back pain and headaches, other well-known causes of chronic pain include arthritis, neck pain and muscular and skeletal abnormalities to name just a few.
Tomorrow, Iíll highlight some old and new treatments for chronic pain. For North Mississippi Medical Center, Iím Dr. Edward Hill.
