Pharmacist QuestionsWednesday, October 10, 2012
If you are sick and in need of medication, you may have many questions to ask your doctor. But have you made a list of questions and concerns for your pharmacist? Dr. Edward Hill discusses why a talk with your pharmacist might be a good thing to do in todays 60 Second Housecall.
Pharmacists cannot diagnose medical conditions, but they can answer many questions about medicines, recommend non-prescription drugs, and discuss medication side effects and interactions.
Pharmacists are trained to provide valuable information about the prescriptions they fill.
Make sure that your pharmacist knows exactly what allergies you or your loved one has. And tell your pharmacist about all of the medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements and herbals. This will help the pharmacist protect against potentially dangerous drug interactions.
Consider the following questions for your pharmacist:
Does this medication require special storage conditions?
How many times a day should it be given?
Should it be given with food?
Should certain foods be avoided when taking this medication?
Are there special side effects that I should look for, and
Will this medicine conflict with other medications?
A pharmacist is an important resource when it comes to making sure you or your loved one are getting the right medicine.
