Protecting Our Senses

Without your five senses you couldnt watch a sunset, smell the grass, taste your favorite foods or listen to your favorite song. Well-functioning senses enable us to have a better quality of life. Dr. Edward Hill gives some tips for keeping our senses sharp and intact in todays 60 Second Housecall.

Dr. Hill:

Our five senses are very important to our well-being. They help us sense dangerfrom a mean dog, a hot stove, soured milk, to even smoke or harmful gas.

But how do we protect our senses? We tend to take them for granted because they are always working without us telling them to. Paying attention to just a few tips can help protect all five of our senses.

Always remember to turn the volume down on loud music, especially when wearing earphones, and never put anything into your ears. Wear sunglasses or a hat on bright days and avoid rubbing your eyes. Wash your skin with mild soap and always apply lotion and sunscreen to keep your skin from damage. Refrain from smoking or sniffing harmful chemicals as they can damage your sense of smell and taste. And never stick anything up your nose.

And dont forget your best sense of all: your sense of humor. Remember, laughter is the best medicine.
