Sleep Tips

Do you have trouble falling asleep? Do you wake up several times during the night and have trouble staying asleep? If so, Dr. Edward Hill suggests some better sleep habits in todays 60 Second Housecall.

Dr. Hill:

As an adult, you need between seven and nine hours of sleep every night. When youre fully rested, youll probably notice that you have an easier time remembering things and that it takes less effort to concentrate. If you dont get enough sleep, you may notice that your reflexes are slower or that you are easily irritated. So what can you do to get a good nights sleep?

Avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine right before bedtime

Dont exercise too close to bedtime

Control your exposure to light by closing your curtains or shades

Turn your alarm clock toward your wall so you dont see the time or light

Wake up at the same time every day

Avoid naps during the day, and

Read a book at bedtime to relax and get your mind off your worries.

If these tips dont work and you have recurring insomnia, or daytime sleepiness, talk with your doctor.
