Whether youre counting carbs, watching calories or just trying to eat healthy, Thanksgiving doesnt have to derail your dieting efforts. Dr. Edward Hill gives us some tips on smart Thanksgiving eating in todays 60 Second Housecall.
Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday season, typically a tough time for dieters. Many people gain weight during this time of year, but with a little planning, you can satisfy your holiday cravings and enjoy a guilt-free Thanksgiving feast.
Plan on eating a variety of foods. If you try to eliminate one category, youll likely end up feeling deprived and may compensate by overeating. Dont skip breakfast. Eating a small meal in the morning can give you more control over your appetite.
At mealtime, scan the buffet and carefully choose the foods you love. If they are high in calories take a smaller portion.
Here are some tips for smart Thanksgiving eating:
Limit yourself to one plate of food; no second helpings.
Eat slowly and savor every bite.
Eat what you like, just eat a little less of it.
Enjoy a small serving of dessert.
Follow the meal with a leisurely walk.
