Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday season, typically a tough time for dieters. And there is usually plenty of food, including desserts, that can wreck a healthy diet.
Many people gain weight during this time of year, but with a little planning, you can satisfy your holiday cravings and enjoy a guilt-free Thanksgiving feast.
Plan on eating a variety of foods. If you try to eliminate one category, you'll likely end up feeling deprived and may compensate by overeating.
At mealtime, scan the buffet and carefully choose the foods you love. If they are high in calories take a smaller portion.
Here are some tips for smart Thanksgiving eating:
Limit yourself to one plate of food, no second helpings.
Eat slowly and savor every bite.
Eat what you like, just eat a little less of it.
Enjoy a small serving of dessert.
Follow the meal with a leisurely walk.
Have fun sharing food and celebrating the holiday with your family and friends.
